My Writing Heroes

If you are a writer and have never heard of Peter Elbow or William Zinsser, allow mw to introduce to you the best books on writing ever published.  Peter Elbow's book Writing With Power is half writing tips, half support group. In this video he talks about his experiences in graduate school - being kicked out of graduate school for not being able to write.

William Zinsser is my other favorite writer on writing.  My students love his book because he approaches writing in a casual, humorous and easy to understand way.

Montessori Education

I never thought I would be one of those education-nut moms.  But I am .  Here is a great video on montessori education, which I am a big believer in.  At least for now... with my 3 year old.  Who knows, I might change my mind later. Check out a video that presents one parent's observations.

February Conference Presentation

Recently I have become more interested in researching ways of engaging my ELL students.  I am presenting some of what I learned through my own research and Dr. Sauro's ESL 6063 class in the fall at a conference on Feb 4.  The San Antonio Writing Project is holding its 6th annual teacher conference at UTSA (downtown).  The title of this year's conference is Avoiding Writicide: Valuing Writing in Tough Times. I will be presenting a paper titled "Understanding, Identifying, and Engaging English Language Learners in the Classroom."
